About Andrea Laznik Amit, MA, RP

If you are here, something in your life may feel heavy, confusing, or painful. You might be struggling with anxiety that shows up in your body, depression that makes everything feel muted, or the lingering effects of difficult life experiences or relationships.

Sometimes people come to therapy knowing exactly what is wrong. Other times, they simply feel that something isn’t working the way it used to — a sense of being stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others.

My role as a therapist is to help you explore what may be happening beneath the surface of these experiences. Together, we look at the emotional patterns that shape how you feel, think, and relate to others, so that you can begin to understand them and create meaningful change.

Professional background

I have more than 25 years of experience providing psychotherapy, assessment, and clinical supervision in a variety of settings, including hospitals, outpatient mental health clinics, and private practice. Throughout my career, I have worked with adolescents, adults, parents, and families facing a wide range of emotional challenges.

Earlier in my career, I practiced as a clinical psychologist in Israel, where I also supervised psychology residents and graduate students and taught seminars in psychodynamic theory and practice. This work shaped my commitment to thoughtful, ethical, and deeply personalized care.

Today I practice in Burlington, Ontario, offering both in-person and online therapy for adolescents (14+) and adults. I work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including many Canadian and Israeli clients, and I provide therapy in English, Hebrew, and Spanish.

Therapy tailored to your needs

My work is rooted in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy. In simple terms, this means we look beyond symptoms to understand the deeper emotional patterns that influence your current struggles.

Many emotional difficulties are connected to experiences, relationships, or internal conflicts that operate outside of our awareness. Therapy helps bring these patterns into focus so they can be understood, explored, and gradually changed.

I also integrate approaches such as Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), cognitive behavioral principles, and hypnosis when appropriate. Every person is different, and therapy is always adapted to your goals, your pace, and your unique life experience.

Therapy is not a quick fix. It is a thoughtful process that helps you develop greater emotional awareness, freedom from patterns that no longer serve you, and a deeper sense of stability and self-understanding.
