FAQ

Starting therapy often comes with questions. It’s natural to want to understand how therapy works and what you can expect before reaching out. Below you’ll find answers to some common questions about working with Andrea Laznik Amit and the services offered through Talking Cure.

My work is grounded in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which focuses on understanding the deeper patterns that shape how we think, feel, and relate to others. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all method, therapy is highly personalized and guided by your unique experiences and goals.

I believe therapy is a collaborative process. Together, we explore the emotional patterns and experiences that may be influencing your present challenges so that meaningful and lasting change becomes possible.

I work with teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and a wide range of emotional or relational challenges. Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or struggling with difficult life transitions.

Therapy can help you better understand these experiences and develop new ways of relating to yourself, others, and the situations you face in daily life.

Psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists can all provide psychotherapy if they have appropriate training. Their education and professional roles are different, but all three professions may help people address emotional and psychological challenges through therapy.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors and are the only professionals who can prescribe psychiatric medication. In some situations, therapy and medication may be combined to provide the best support for a person’s mental health.

Yes. Psychotherapists in Ontario are regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Registration with the CRPO ensures that therapists meet specific standards for education, training, and ethical practice.

As a registered psychotherapist, I follow these professional standards to provide safe, ethical, and responsible care.

At the beginning of therapy, we usually spend a few sessions getting to know each other and understanding what brings you to therapy. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is an important part of the process.

Change often happens gradually as we explore patterns, emotions, and experiences together. Many people begin to notice shifts in how they understand themselves, respond to challenges, and relate to others.

Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can briefly discuss what you’re experiencing and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

This conversation also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about my approach to therapy before scheduling a full session.

I offer both in-person therapy in Burlington, Ontario, and online therapy. Online sessions can be a convenient option for many people and allow clients to access therapy from the comfort of their own space.

I also work with clients in Israel through online sessions.

Many extended health insurance plans in Canada provide coverage for psychotherapy with a registered psychotherapist. Clients typically pay for sessions directly and then submit their receipt to their insurance provider for reimbursement.

Because coverage varies between insurance plans, I recommend checking with your provider to understand the details of your specific benefits.

The fee for a 50-minute psychotherapy session is $175. Payment is made at the time of the session, and a receipt is provided for insurance reimbursement if applicable.

Sliding scale options may be available in certain situations, depending on individual circumstances.

Sessions are generally available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with some flexibility depending on scheduling.

We can discuss availability together and find a time that works best for both of us.

Therapy is not meant to last forever. The length of therapy depends on the challenges you are facing and the goals you want to work toward.

Some people benefit from shorter periods of therapy focused on specific concerns, while others choose to continue longer as they explore deeper patterns and personal growth.

Getting started is simple. You can reach out through the contact form or by calling me at (289) 230-0111 to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.

During that conversation, we can briefly discuss what brings you to therapy and determine whether working together feels like the right next step.

Yes. In addition to English, I offer therapy in Hebrew, Spanish, and French. Many clients find it helpful to speak about personal experiences and emotions in the language they feel most comfortable with.

Providing therapy in multiple languages can also help ensure that cultural background and personal context are better understood within the therapeutic process.

Yes. I work with teens (ages 14 and up) as well as adults who are navigating emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship difficulties.

Therapy provides a supportive space to explore what you’re experiencing, gain insight into underlying patterns, and begin developing healthier ways of understanding and responding to life’s challenges.
